Useful information
1. Welcome
Welcome to McKinsey Belgium & Luxembourg’s Give a Day volunteering platform. This platform is designed to make it easier to discover relevant volunteering opportunities, connect with pre-selected non-profit organizations, and contribute meaningfully to the communities around us.
2. About Our Volunteering Program
McKinsey’s Volunteering Time Off program gives all colleagues the opportunity to take 2 days per year of paid time off to volunteer with local organizations and causes.
The program is intended for volunteering activities with social or environmental impact. Opportunities may include, for example, helping community organizations, supporting educational programs, contributing to environmental clean-ups, assisting social inclusion initiatives, or supporting organizations working with vulnerable groups. Please review the McKinsey Serves Risk Guardrails to make sure that your chosen volunteering activity and its organization align with our risk guidelines.
When planning your Volunteering Time Off, please keep the following practical considerations in mind:
Align in advance with PD and your team. Please make sure your VTO timing works with your staffing, client, and client development commitments before registering
Plan thoughtfully around your week. Where possible, try to combine VTO with training days, office days, or other non-client commitments to avoid creating a fragmented client week
Use the correct charge code. Please charge your VTO time to Z062
Use VTO during the work week. Volunteering Time Off is intended to be used on regular working days, not during weekends, public holidays, PTO, or other non-working time
Register only when you can attend. Once you subscribe and are confirmed for an activity, the host organization will count on your presence
After completing your volunteering, feel free to share your experience in your office slack channel, or with the C4G BLO team (Emma B, Annelien E, Pieter P, Capucine D, Thomas P, Zacharie S).
3. How does this Give a Day platform work?

Risk requirements
Before registering, colleagues should review the McKinsey Serves Risk Guardrails to make sure the volunteering opportunity is appropriate for VTO and does not create legal, reputational, client, political, religious, anti-corruption, or safety concerns for McKinsey.
As a rule, VTO should be used for hands-on volunteering with legitimate nonprofit organizations that have a clear social or environmental mission. VTO should not be used for political activities, religious institutions, governmental or quasi-governmental organizations, nonprofit board or executive responsibilities, or activities that could adversely affect McKinsey’s client service efforts.
Activities that involve professional-skills volunteering, use of Firm IP or materials, work in restricted locations, payments or donations to the host organization, or potential links to Firm clients or government officials may require additional review and approval before proceeding. If you are unsure, please check with PD or the McKinsey program owner before registering.
Language requirements
Many volunteering opportunities in Belgium require Dutch or French language skills.
Please review the language requirements carefully before registering.
Tracking and reporting
McKinsey tracks participation in the Volunteering Time Off program for internal reporting, program improvement, and social impact purposes. Upon confirmation of your volunteering, you will be asked to fill in the Volunteer Registration Page.
