"The Freedom Drive" is one of the key campaigns of the European Network on Independent Living (ENIL). It has been held every two years since 2003. It provides supporters of the Independent Living Movement with the unique opportunity to meet Members of the European Parliament (MEPs), to promote the rights of disabled people and to share experiences and ideas with fellow activists from around Europe. The Freedom Drive is aimed at members of ENIL, independent living activists, disabled people and their organisations, allies, policy and decision makers, and anyone else interested in learning about and supporting the right to independent living.
The ENIL 2026 Freedom Drive will take place in Brussels, between the 29th September and 1st October. It will consist of a number of events, including workshops, a conference, a protest march, a hearing at the European Parliament and a party. The slogan of the 2026 Freedom Drive, which marks the 20th anniversary of the adoption of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities is NO MORE EXCUSES - OUR TIME IS NOW!
